DID YOU KNOW ?
B&C
103 Dec 04 carried a message from UK Police Constable
Mike Talbot who wrote to say that Young May Moon was also
the signature tune of the Royal Irish Constabulary and
would have been played in Dublin in their passing out
parades up to 1922.
Rob
Teggin, former Sherwood Forester, says the tune was also
the regimental march of his old regt, The Sherwood
Foresters, before they amalgamated.
Webmaster Comment: Thanks Mike and Rob.

B&C 104 Jun 05 carried
a paragraph compiled from messages from Mervyn
Best, Royal Ulster Constabulary GC Foundation Office,
and Dereck Mccready.: ‘Young May Moon continued as the
Regimental March of the Royal Ulster Constabulary - GC,
which succeeded the Royal Irish Constabulary, and was
played by the RUC Band up to 3 Nov 2001 when, under the
terms of the Patten Report, the name of the force was
changed to The Police Service for Northern Ireland. It is
still played at RUC Memorial Services.'
Webmaster Comment: Thanks Mervyn and Dereck.

In Feb 07 came an e-mail appeal from
David Linton in UK: I have a request from a civilian band master, whose band
is to play at an RUC GC Remembrance service in Northern Ireland shortly, for
the sheet music to 'The Young May Moon'.
He believes that there should be approx 9 parts?
My father was a member of the RUC and was proud of the 'March Past' as he
knew it and I would be delighted if you could help me in my quest.
Webmaster Comment: Thanks David for your query. For a
copy of the score try

It seems to cost between £1.49 and £1.99.
You simply pay and can then immediately print directly to your printer.
As for the number of parts, yes I seem to recall it had 9 parts. But I last
played in an orchestra in 1966 - the tuba (after the bugle, cymbals, fife
and violin) so my memory may be at fault !
