NORWICH
AND DISTRICT BRANCH
We meet monthly with a good attendance at the Norman Centre in Bignold Rd. Our President
Capt William Gaymer, Alec Barr, Gwyn Button, Maurice Eke,
John Slaughter and Arthur Storey have been unwell. (Chairman Paul
Boxall telephoned the Norfolk Editor after his 5 weeks in hospital and a few
operations. He was in good heart and voice but said he would wait a few days before going
out in his car! Ed.) We wish them all a speedy return to their customary good health. It
was therefore a depleted Erection Team who performed the essential task of preparing the
Drill Hall for the Sep Association Dinner. Under the command of Lt Col Paul Garman
the team were: Richard Bullock, Alan Nichols, Ray Segon,
Barney Taylor and Simon Hatch from RHQ plus a chap who kept
disappearing to light his pipe. The Col did a grand job leading the command task but it
lacked something we had suffered experienced under Paul. Err.. swearing!
(See Erection
Team. Ed)
We meet at 11 am at the Norman Centre on the 4th Sunday, except in Apr and Sep when the
Regimental Chapel Services are held and in Dec when we have a non-business meeting
consisting of drinks with the ladies, this year at noon on Sun 15 Dec 2002.
Contact Lt Col Paul Garman via the Norfolk Section Editor.
NOTE From Jun 03 we meet at 11 am at the Norwich RBL Club in Edmund
Bacon Court, Aylsham Road, Norwich.

NORWICH BRANCH ANNUAL LUNCH
The Branch Lunch for 46 members, guests and their ladies on Sun 24 Nov 2002 at the
Cavalier Hotel, Norwich, was organised by Lt Col Paul Garman. It was sad to
leave the Chilianwala Table and the splendid Aylsham Road Officers Mess but it was a
first rate venue. The all-encompassing title of the Royal Norfolk and Royal Anglian
Regimental Association is most appropriate as we had Royal Norfolks, Suffolks and Royal
Anglians present.
Missing were June and Arthur, again in Oz for 3 months, so surname withheld
to protect their Llareggub home from burglars! (Click here for
an account of the Spring 02 Expedition to Llareggub Lake by 2 Thetford (Gangster) Pl). |
We welcomed 2 new members, 1954-6 1st Bn C Coy National Servicemen: Gordon Hare,
at Colchester with OC the late Col Nick Hallett, then at the Depot and Graham Charlish, in Colchester and Cyprus as Coy
Clerk to OC Maj Andrew Athill.
The Guests were Mrs Mary Flower, Col and Mrs Tony Taylor and Maj
Gen John Sutherell CB CBE who updated us on the
achievements of 1 R Anglian. Back from Kabul, where A (Royal Norfolk) Coy were based in
Norfolk House, they were in Pirbright but dispersed manning Green Goddesses. The General
admitted to being the youngest and most recently joined soldier present! He complimented Paul
Boxall, a tower of strength, planning to retire as Chairman, on
establishing the Branch in 1992. Paul responded: I know Im a cantankerous old
bastard but appreciate the support of you all. In a mirror I dont recognise myself
from the compliments!

1998 photograph of Paul. As if you need a reminder!
