GORLESTON
AND GREAT YARMOUTH DISTRICT
Ray Pillar
writes:
On the visit to Duxford a pleasant surprise awaited Geoff
Smith, John Morley and Mick Ellis when
they met their former officer from the 1st Bn, Maj John H Keep (see e-mail
from Tony Ooi). We enjoyed visits to Bassingbourn and
Bury St Edmunds, sharing a coach with the Beccles Branch.
At our AGM all the Committee were re-elected so we must be
doing something right!
Our Dinner and Draw at The Pier Hotel was again a great
success. Lt Col Paul Garman, accompanied by his
wife Sylvia, was our Dinner Chairman. We had
friends from far and wide. A call from Kenny Smith
in Northampton brought about a reunion between him, Gerry
Banham and their Cpl Instructor from when they joined
the army - our Chairman for the night.
We were pleased to see Stan and Mrs Bullock,
Roy and Mrs Sharpe and many friends from
Norwich.
The 80 attending had a very enjoyable meal, followed by
the Draw with 70 prizes. Then it was down to the serious
business of drinking and enjoying the evening. The 2001
Dinner is on Sat 1 Dec.
Branch members attended the funerals of Bert King,
Royal Norfolk and Danny Temple, Suffolk.
Sadly missed, click
here for Bert’s obituary.
The Branch meet on the last Wednesday of the month at The
Albion, Lowestoft Road, Gorleston at 8pm.
Anyone visiting the area is most welcome to visit the
Gorleston and Great Yarmouth District Branch and have a
yarn. You never know, you might meet an old friend!

LONDON BRANCH
Bill Seymour
writes: The Branch membership of 40, widely dispersed over
the country, are kept informed by newsletter of Branch and
Regimental Association functions.
On a bright morning on Sun 1 Apr 2001 the Branch held
their Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony on behalf of the
Regimental Association at The Cenotaph, Whitehall. There
were 14 on parade; Capt Ian Page laid the wreath
and Stan Rasberry carried the Branch Standard. An
RBL Bugler sounded Last Post and Reveille.
It is sad to report the death of Bill Stechman, one
of our staunch members, on 24 Feb 2001. Click
here for his obituary.
Capt Maurice Franses has had a spell in hospital
with heart problems but I am pleased to say he is back
home and improving.
The London Branch now meet four times per annum at
"The One Tun", Saffron Hill, EC1. The next
meetings are on Mon evening 3 Sep and 3 Dec 2001.
