NORWICH AND DISTRICT BRANCH
We meet monthly with a good attendance at the Norwich RBL Club in Edmund Bacon Court.
A chance meeting in Norwich led our Recruiting and Publicity Officer, Lt Col Paul Garman, into introducing our new member, Mike Smith, former 1 R Anglian and Norfolk ACF. Paul was his CSM in Felixstowe. Welcome aboard Mike.
On 6 Jun 03 a plaque was unveiled in the Millennium Library at The Forum in Norwich to commemorate the Norwich civilian and military citizens who fell in WW2. The Norwich Branch Standard was carried by Ray Segon who warns those seeking the plaque: ‘On my recce, 3 library staff were unaware where is was and I found it hidden behind a bookcase!’
On 15 Jun Ray again carried the Branch Standard, one of 21, at the plaque dedication in the Sparrow Nest Gardens, Lowestoft, to National Servicemen. (And see National Service Memorial Dedication.)
At the Jun 03 meeting we not only welcomed Mrs Ruth Marshall and Eva Reeve, former ATS, but unofficially appointed Gwyn Button as Entertainments Offr after his telling of 2 excruciating Paddy jokes (click here for them) and a boast about his garden: ‘I’ve a lovely garden. Madge does a great job with it.’
A question Who said to Gwyn Button at a Branch Meeting: 'Do you remember where my car is or do you want to walk home?'
We thank Gwyn for his initiative in having music played at the Sep 03 Association Dinner 2003 for which the Branch again provided the Erection XI. (Click here for a report on the erection, with photographs.)
The Oct AGM confirmed the appointments: President - Capt William Gaymer TD, Chairman/Secretary - Paul Boxall, Vice Chairman - Barney Taylor, Treasurer - Maj John Raybould TD, Publicity and Welfare - Lt Col Paul Garman, Standard Bearer - Ray Segon.
John Slaughter has been unwell and we wish him a speedy return to his customary good health so he can turn out for the veterans rugger match on Boxing Day, playing on the wing for Woodford against the Norfolk Editor at scrum half for Ilford Wanderers!
A Branch Lunch for members, guests and ladies is on Sun 30 Nov 2003 at the Cavalier Hotel, Norwich.
We meet at 11 am on the 4th Sun, except in Apr when the Regimental Almanza Service is attended and in Dec when we have a non-business meeting consisting of drinks with the ladies, this year at noon on Sun 14 Dec 2003.

Editorial Rule
To qualify for inclusion in the B&C there is only one rule - something described must have been said to have happened.
The authority is the Editor, British Army Review No 114 Dec 96, `If the facts don`t fit the legend, print the legend’.

However, the rules of good taste, respect and confidentiality are always applied.

Rule Britannia!
