Captain Jack Dallimore, former CAA CNA and QM Norfolk ACF
died on 15 July 2000 aged 67

The Union Flag draped coffin at the funeral service at St Faith's Norwich signified a lifetime of Service in uniform. The Chapel was filled with his family, colleagues from Jack's Regular Army service with The Beds & Herts, the East Anglian, Royal Anglian and Queens Regiments and a more youthful representation from his latter days of service with the Norfolk Army Cadet Force.
Born and educated in Great Yarmouth, Jack joined the Bedfords in 1951 and quickly became a Sergeant in the Canal Zone. He was one of the young batch of Regulars and National Servicemen who were moulded and promoted under the watchful eye of RSM Bill Moody to fill the vacuum caused by the departure of the wartime Senior NCOs.
For 35 years "Dally" as he was universally known, served all over the world; in Egypt, Goslar, and Warley with the Bedfords; Malaya, Ballykinler, Berlin and Aden with the amalgamated battalions, with TA tours in between.
Dally transferred to 1 QUEENS and served with them in Berlin, Bulford and Northern Ireland until 1973. He went on the Long Service List in North Wales, Celle, Kirkudbright, Hohne and Dover.
Prior to retiring from the Regular Army as a Warrant Officer in 1986, Jack joined Norfolk ACF in 1985 as a Permanent Staff Captain with Cadet Norfolk Artillery Battery before becoming Quartermaster at County HQ from 1993-1998.
In final retirement he pursued his interests of gardening, sailing and caravanning with the quiet attention to detail that was his hallmark. Jack maintained his interest in the Cadets and the number of retired and serving ACF SNCOs and Officers present indicated the respect in which Jack was held.
A man of loyalty, with a keen sense of humour and devoted to his family Jack will be sadly missed.
Jack is survived by his widow Sheila, whom he met at school, daughters Stephanie and Sandra, grandchildren Leanne, Hannah and Robert.

A personal memory: At 1995 ACF Camp Redesdale, Lt Col Miles Green (then Training Officer) and the Webmaster (then Assistant to Miles Green) faced a stern test. The dreaded Matrix Tick test had to be passed in order to continue to drive military vehicles. No matter that we had last looked at a copy of The Highway Code just before passing our driving tests over 30 years previously. Jack Dallimore was the Quartermaster and with great patience explained to the two "getting crusty Majors" that the rules were clear. We had to swot up the Highway code, identify a plethora of road signs we swore did not exist on any of the roads on which we had ever driven and learn some complicated speed and distance figures before being subjected to a written test. Jack's encouragement and confidence we could do it played a major part and we surprised ourselves by achieving a pass. Rather like our experiences years earlier with the dreaded Audit Boards we knew it would all have to be gone through again but not for another 5 years. Thanks Jack.
