Danny Bates, who served with the 4th Bn.
Parker Bradstreet MM suddenly, of a heart attack, on 2 October 1995, aged 76. I first met 'Brad' when he came out with the first batch of National Servicemen to join the 1st Bn at Bangalore in 1940 and returned with them to the UK in May 1940. A farmer and true son of the soil, he loved the land and in particular his farm. He would regale his fellow soldiers with tales of the farm. He was a good soldier and a typical East Anglian, steady and loyal, a good chap to have around when things got sticky. During the winter campaign in NW Europe at the battle of Kervenheim he had the misfortune to have his hearing impaired due to blast effect. He spent a very short time out of the line before rejoining the battalion. He ended the war on VE Day at Bremen as Lt Col Peter Barclay's carrier driver. He was a founder member of the D-Day Veterans Association and which now has a large number of members. During his training for D-Day in Scotland he met Mary who was to become his wife. She has now moved back to Scotland. Goodbye Brad - a Yeoman of England. RNK
OG Doy on Easter Sunday 7 April 1996. He served with the 70th Bn, a Young Soldiers Battalion formed after the Battle of Britain. He lived in Framlingham Earl and is survived by his widow.
Maj FEI 'Robin' Mason on 18 June 1995 after a long battle against cancer. He served in Korea, Hong Kong, where he was ADC to Gen Airey, and the Depot in Norwich where he was Adjutant 1955-57. His last appointment was as Training Major to Suffolk & Cambs. He lived at Reed Hall, Holbrook, Ipswich and is survived by his widow Mrs Elizabeth Mason. EM
Arthur Ronald 'Ron' Norman suddenly, on 4 February 1996. He served with 5th Bn Royal Norfolks 1940-1946 and would have been 75 on 28 February. He lived at the War Memorial Cottages, Mousehold Lane, Norwich and leaves a widow, Ada. BD
