REGIMENTAL ANECDOTES
`Old soldiers never die, they just fade away’ may not be true but their priceless memories do fade away. The Late Maj Tom Styles contributed an unparalleled 23 unique pieces between 1995 and his untimely death in 2000.

With the passing of more Old Comrades it is increasingly evident that much Regimental anecdotal history is being lost. The facts and deeds are nobly recorded in worthy tomes but much of the human element, sayings, stories, emotions and opinions of events is often only recollected at Regimental gatherings. These reminiscences and the undocumented informal facets of military life need to be recorded. From pre-war, WW2 and especially the Far East, the Berlin blockade, Korea, Hong Kong, Cyprus, Aden and recent conflicts, please send them in.

REMEMBER
‘If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are gone, either write things worth reading or do things worth writing.’
Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

‘Writers are a little below clowns and above trained seals.’
John Steinbeck (1902-1968)

4TH BATTALION GARDEN PARTY 2002
David Barratt wrote: Unlike the POWs the Bn left behind, my father has ‘grown old’ so my wife Penelope and I will be hosting this year’s Garden Party, on behalf of my parents, Capt and Mrs Barratt. It will be at our home in Great Witchingham on Sun 7 Jul 2002, at 3 pm. Mr Brian MacArthur, who is writing a book on the suffering of POWs after the fall of Singapore, will be with us at the Garden Party, armed with his tape recorder, and is much looking forward to meeting all Old Comrades.
For the address please contact the Norfolk Section Editor.
THE ROYAL NORFOLK SHOW
At The Royal Norfolk Show 26-27 June 2002 the Regimental Tent will be open to all ranks. Thursday is less busy and gives a better chance to meet former friends and members of the Regt, enjoy a sit down and relate old memories over a cup of tea or a glass of Maj William Reeve’s favourite warm beer. A Regimental tie is your passport!
