Jim Lane
BEM, of Kings Lynn, wrote about a Jul 03 tour with Travelscope, conducted by Glen
Hearnden, MBA, RBL Field Manager East. Based at Ypres they found graves of Norfolk Regt
soldiers alongside those of almost every British Regt you could name. A Battlefield guide
for 10 years, Glen was very knowledgeable. Jim was the only former Royal Norfolk on the
tour. Near Vermelles, at St Marys Advance Dressing Station Cemetery, where 30
Norfolk Regt soldiers are buried, a Service of Remembrance was held near the Cross of
Sacrifice.
Near Becourt, in Norfolk Cemetery, is the grave of the youngest Norfolk Regt soldier to
die in The Great War, Isaac Lund, aged 16, of Sutton Bridge. |

Holding the wreath is Frederick Ewles.
His father fought in the area and survived the war, though badly wounded.
