ABC FOR OFFICERS
B&C 99 Dec 02 carried 2 pieces concerning officers and their writing - One of the few officers who could read and write and Writing of officers.
After handing in, rather late, his discs and hard-copy of B&C 99 to RHQ, the Norfolk Editor returned home to check his pypting and found many punctures punctuation errors. (Do readers in 6 R Anglian remember a Suffolk Lt Col we knew as ‘The Late’ because he always was?)
Also found, in The Britannia, journal of The Royal Norfolk Regt, Issue No 51 May 1958, was:
'Congratulations - Courses: Lt DC Thorne on being graded ‘A’ on his ABC Course.'
So, now we know. Officers had to go back to school!
(As we know, this Lt later rose to become General Sir David Thorne KBE CVO, who died in 2000.  Ed.)

R NORFOLK/ E ANGLIAN SHOULDER FLASH
Peter Cranfield,
Norwich Branch Member and former 1R Norfolk, R Leics, 1EA, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th R Anglian, (Beat that!  Ed.) in Norwich, asks if The Royal Norfolk Regt and 1 E Anglian had separate flashes: a Viking in a red background for the Depot and on a blue background for the Bns?
The Britannia No 29 Feb 1947 reported: ‘A new District Sign for East Anglian District was approved in September 1946, consisting of a Viking head in white on a red background.’
Please reply to the Norfolk Section Editor.
