MOBILE BATH AND LAUNDRY UNIT
B&C No 91 Dec 98, on page N18, referred to the above. They still exist and provide a much needed facility.

THE NEW
Now titled "Mobile Shower and Laundry Unit", they are part of The Royal Logistic Corps. 710 Laundry Sqn is a 200 strong Specialist Unit of the RLC TA. Chemical and Nerve Agent decontamination is part of their modern warfare duties. The unit contains 15 showers and they can clean up to 90 soldiers an hour.

THE OLD - WASHDAY WOES IN KOREA
For a time, one of the Mobile Bath and Laundry units during the Korean War was situated just outside the northern entrance to "Gloster Valley". (The Americans could not cope with the spelling of Gloucester. Ed) During the summer it was easy for servicemen to wash and dry the laundry, but in the cold days of the winter it was really necessary to have the services of the RASC. Mobile units had to rely on local women who were paid to do the laundry while the unit was on the move. This however, had its drawbacks, as David Watkins, now a storeman with C Coy 2 RRW, explained. "The custom locally was to wash clothes in the river using an evil-smelling locally made soap. Added to this, the local farmers fertilised their fields with human excrement. As a result, the water running off the paddy fields added to the already unpleasant smell of washed clothes."
